Ukraine gov`t and Microsoft Ukraine Company agreed on deepening cooperationComments Open Source : Code threatens Microsofts dominance and Ukraine`s ecomonic development
Open source code based on the Unix operating system threatens microsoft`s dominance in the Information Works space. Developing countries such as Ukraine, Latin America and Africa are actively planning the development of integrated information systems based around the open source development environment. In the end it boils down to economics with billions of dollars up for grabs that can be saved by governments by adopting open source information systems. To this end Microsoft needs to ensure that its operating systems and software platforms are readily available to developing nations, schools and governments if it is to retain its dominance in the market place. Microsoft made it big at a time when Centralized data systems needed to be broken down . The Internet has change this direction and more and more data systems are once again being housed centrally. Companies, such as Google also threatens Microsoft`s dominance. Ukraine`s accession to the WTO will add to the costs of doing business as companies begin to enforce intellectual copyright protection. Unless there is an effective agreements in place Ukraine could be under as much economic pressure in the Information sector as it is in gas and fuel. |
